Can i use regular white acrylic paint as a primer instead of gesso?

i ran out of gesso but i have white acrylic paint ( from a tube) can i use it as a primer for a canvas oil painting? its stretched over a wood pannel not a frame......Can i use regular white acrylic paint as a primer instead of gesso?
No, you cannot substitute acrylic paint for gesso. How large is the canvas? I can't imagine a tube would be enough to cover even a small canvas adequately. It will also be very difficult to get the paint to stick, which is why we use gesso in the first place.Can i use regular white acrylic paint as a primer instead of gesso?
The gesso abosrves more water from teh paint compares to the white paint. (but not as much as a bare canvas.) other than that there's not much difference.
