Should I use a primer to paint over latex?

My wife lightly sanded some louvered closet doors that hadn't been properly sanded before the original semi gloss paint was put on. Should I use a primer coat before painting them again? If so, what do you suggest for a primer paint?.......Thanks!Should I use a primer to paint over latex?
Hi- yea most likely youll want to use a primer. If the doors have been sanded well- there may not be any peeling later- but if they have been lightly sanded- you might want to do the priming anyway. Now- I dont want to tell you anything certain because I wouldnt want to be the cause of you going out there and spending an arm and a leg on paint and primer. I cant remember the brand names of any particular paints that have primer in them but I do know Kiltz makes a good primer. If the paint is going over a latex....yea primer is probably the way to go. You might want to do more sanding as well. I know there are paints out there that have the primer in them. Youd have to check and see what you can find at a store. Preferably Home Depot or some place.

Kiltz may also make paint/primers.Should I use a primer to paint over latex?
youre very welcome. Hope it turned out good.

Many thanks and best to you and yours. =)

If the doors were painted with latex paint there is no need to prime them. If there are spots where the wood is showing through then by all means go ahead and spot prime the spots. Other then that just go ahead and paint the doors.
if the sanding was done correctly than no primer is needed
