What is the best way to paint over oil-based spray primer with latex paint?

I did some patch work on interior dry wall that was previously painted. I accidentally used oil-based primer rather then latex. Two coats of latex paint on top of it and the primer spots still stand out. Do I need to start over and prime everything? Can I spray a latex primer over the spots and hopefully just apply another coat of paint? Keep applying coats until it matches?What is the best way to paint over oil-based spray primer with latex paint?
Sand paper take it back down to dry wall is the way I would do it. Then put your stain blocker on.What is the best way to paint over oil-based spray primer with latex paint?
You can paint latex over oil based primer. You can not paint oil over latex primer. You have changed the texture with the primer, and the light catches it differently.
Primer the spot with KILZ. Repaint. If that don't do it. Primer the entire wall with KILZ , then paint. It won't look right until it completely dries. I have used KILZ over black magic marker and couldn't tell the difference when it all dried. It looks a little shinier where you primed, until it thoroughly dries.
It's not a good idea to paint an latex over an enamel or an enamel over latex. Keep them the same.
wow you got carried away, stop, do nothing. go to any corner paint store that deals with professional painters. tell them what you did, but before you go, first is the latex paint you put over the oil primer sticking....can you scratch it off with your thumb nail....if it is not you might have to take the latex paint off. if it is sticking, you need a acrylic primer with at least 26 percent acrylic resin, you can tint this primer a little to match the color of your intended wall finish. if you want to be able to wash these walls ....say if you have little kids, use an eggshell finish, top of the line paint. it will cost you 10 or 15 dollars extra a gallon, but is well worth it. in the future also go to the corner paint store, not lowe's or home depot.
you need to use kilms primer ,two coats let the first coat dry over night , latex doesnt tend to apply well to oil base primers,it will peel off ,the spots i asume are oil come ing thru the paint , if all else fails , try again sorry ....., oil primer has oil in it ,latex is rubber based right , like a car slipping on a wet oily road , just wont do
rock, the reason it stands out is, the rest of the wall isn't the same primer, not because it is oil. three out of five rooms in my house have a liquid oil primer under two coats of latex finish paint. each room looks fine because underneath them is all the same. even if you just do one wall,(i wouldn't) it won't stand out on that wall. good luck, and happy holidays!
