I have metal siding I want to paint. What kind of paint and primer do I need to use?

And, as another question. My house was sided at some point in the 70's. The whole house was sided in white, but the small section within the front porch was sided in green. Was this a fad? The house across the street had the same thing only with blue on the front porch. Has anyone seen this anywhere else?I have metal siding I want to paint. The primer used should be compatable with the finish coat. I suggest you go to one of the major paint company suppliers and ask them what you require to do the job correctly. The primer for aluminum siding is different than for steel.

First, is the part you want to paint in good shape? If it isn't peeling, then just give it a good washing down with TSP and hot water (TSP is available at paint and hardware stores.) When it's really thoroughly dry (give it a couple of days) hit it with a good oil-based primer. After that's thoroughly dry, you can paint it with either oil or latex paint--exterior house paint, of course. And I've never seen the phenomenon you're describing with the different-color front porch.
Check this site out maybe it will help.
