I have a couple rust spots on my car that I have matching paint for from the car dealer, and it's requiring the rust to be primed before using the paint. Is there special car paint primer or can the same primer be used as you use on your walls inside your house? If there is such a thing as car paint primer, would I be able to get it at AutoZone or a place like that?Is car paint primer the same as wall primer?
Car paint requires special etching primers, an intermediate primer, then topcoat. The self-etching primers and bonding primers are available in a spray can thru body shops or online. You'll need special spray gun to shoot the topcoat properly.
You must take ALL the rust down to bare clean metal before using the primers. Time to buy a pain/body book and do some research. Painting a car isnt like painting anything else. Special paints, tools and procedures needed to do it right. Is car paint primer the same as wall primer?
No! You must use auto primer and remove ALL RUST before you apply it.
dont thind so because wall is not waterproof and will smeer off and car paint wont but i dont think that is what you mean if it is yay
No.
no, the idea is the same but it's a different chemical compound.
no not same, sometimes you can find primers at the auto centers, might check a car repair shop too
I do not think so I would not try it out either.
No it not. Anyhow if your car is older and you just want to touch up the rust spots then you probably should sand out the rust. but i wouldnt spend a fortune and buy all kinds of paint spraying crap. go to a quicky paint shop for that 300 dollar spray job. or sand out the rust and touch up with a rust-oleum type product in primer color and finish with your matching paint. wont be perfect but wont cost a fortune. If your looking for pefection save your money for the next car.
