Does the same hold true for acrylic over water based? What happens if I apply oil paint over water based primer or paint?
yes, it should be alright. although, if the paint is caulky then you may have a problem. it should stay on no problem whatsoever! oil paint is good to apply over most surfaces. make sure you read the instructions, usually the container says what to do to achieve best performances. if you doubt, then apply a primer to the surface you are painting first though, i would not do anything myself other than making sure it is dust and oil free. acrylic paint is more complicated, it may crack, or shed or peel... just make sure the water based coat is well adhered to the surface and not peeling off... good luck! What happens if I apply oil paint over water based primer or paint?
i frequently apply oil paints over acryilic primers and finish coats...but acrylic paints will not adhere to oil paint finish the same way...it only works the one way and not the other
You Can apply Oil base over water based or acrylic.
But NOT Water based or acrylic over oil based, unless you use a primer designed to allow you to.
