i want to re do my hood on my car this year, last year i sanded it all down primed it painted it and it did not come out real good if i remove the wax and residue then sand it lightly can i just paint right over it or do i have to reprime the entire hoodCan you spray paint over existing paint with out primer?
If the paint is in good condition you can simply sand it and spray right over it without priming. Clear coat is a urethane product just like primer so there really isn't much difference between the two compatibility wise. Can you spray paint over existing paint with out primer?
a good paint job is all in the prep work.

what you want to do it wetsand the hood with 220, 400, and then 800 grit wetsandpaper. then you need to clean the surface to be painted thoroughly with a mixture of 1:10 mixture of degreaser to water. give a few coats of primer, starting with light coats and finishing with a heavy coat. let primer cure for a few min. then go over it with your automobile base paint . you need to start with light coats first then build up to heavy coats. alternate directions with the paint. go left to right on one coat, then the next coat work up and down. then finish off the paint with a few coats of clear coat. a rattle can paint job can look pretty good if the right prep is done
