When you use a primer paint?

Do you have to use regular paint on top? Or can you you just paint your walls with primer and that's it? What will happen if you just primer the walls? When you use a primer paint?
When you paint, you should use a primer, then paint over it. The primer seals the wall, so you use less coats of paint. One coat of primer can save you 3 coats of paint. The primer also gives the paint something better to 'stick' to so the paint is less likely to chip, especially on molding, when furniture, etc is bumped into it. A lot of places are starting to tint the primer similar to what color you are using, which makes the color look richer.
