FYI: He is a chocolate Labrador.Anyone have suggestions on how to remove paint/primer from my dogs fur?
If it's water based, use lots of soap and water. Follow up with a doggie conditioner. Don't use thinners or chemicals - they could burn the skin.Anyone have suggestions on how to remove paint/primer from my dogs fur?
Please don't put any solvents or cleaners on it! Dogs absorb things through their skin. When my chihuahua got into paint, we wound up just letting it grow out. Didn't take long.
When our puppy knocked over a quart of wood stain we just quickly took him to the bathtub and used dog shampoo and water. It is oil based so it didn't come off of him very well but we didn't want to give it a chance to soak in through his skin. After a few days it did wear itself off just through normal day-to-day motion and brushing.
I wouldn't use paint thinner/mineral spirits because it is very strong and may cause him to get burns or a rash.
i don't agree with any of the posters, i say try peanut butter , lol it works for roofing tar. good luck
I would leave it alone. It will shed out it a couple of days. If you want to speed things up try going over it with a flea comb. I find flea combs very helpful for working stuff out of my dogs' coats. I definitely would not use nail polish remover or mineral spirits on any animal.
lol well i guess someone decided to help paint. well i would just try maybe some nail poilsh remover or something you would use on yourself. just give him a good bath when your done so he wouldnt have any chemicals on his fur.
safest thing would probably be to let it grow out, or cut it out. my pure white dog got dark blue paint on his fur, and i just let it grow out. he looked pretty silly, but i don't think he cared much :)
I would try just putting mineral spirits on a cloth and wiping it off. Stay away from the face. After that just give your dog a bath so he/she doesn't lick their fur and ingest the chemical. That's my thought as it works for paint on human skin.
How much paint? If not much, it will brush out later on if it is a short hair ir long hair, try cutting it out.
I'd just very carefully use the same stuff I'd use on myself.
The safest way is to shave the dog, as most of the chemicals that would ordinarily remove this are toxic to dogs. You should also call your vet with the paint info and see if it is going to cause problems for your dog. The shaving will not hurt the dog, and it will grow back its fur across the summer, but it is far better than having a sick dog. Best of blessings on this,
Maraleh
Water based , try soap and water.
I usually just let my helpful dogs just wear it in shame and it eventually comes off in a couple brushings.
